CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CMERI), Durgapur, has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 (No. 8/2/2026(1)-Rct dated 4 July 2026) inviting online applications for 27 posts of Technician (1) [Group-II] across seven trades at CSIR-CMERI Durgapur (West Bengal) and its Extension Centre, the Centre of Excellence for Farm Machinery, Ludhiana (Punjab). Overall, the 27 posts carry the reservation break-up of SC-04, OBC(NCL)-05, UR-PwBD(HH)-01, UR-PwBD(OH)-01, EWS-04, and UR-12. Out of these 27 posts, 2 posts are reserved horizontally for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). The post carries Pay Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200) as per the 7th CPC, with total emoluments of approximately ₹39,000 per month (inclusive of Basic Pay, DA, HRA, and TA as admissible).

Age Limit and Relaxation
The minimum and maximum age, as on the closing date of online application (3 August 2026), must be 18 years and 28 years respectively. The cut-off date for determining age, qualifications, and claims of SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/EWS/PwBD status or any other benefit (fee exemption, reservation, age relaxation, etc.), where not specified otherwise, is the last date for submission of online application, i.e., 3 August 2026.

Key conditions on age relaxation:
- No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC candidates applying against unreserved posts.
- SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates must upload a copy of the certificate in the prescribed format, duly signed by the competent authority. OBC candidates must produce the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate valid for appointment to posts under the Central Government, and must ensure they do not fall in the creamy layer as on 3 August 2026.
- Age relaxation for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) is given only to candidates with 40% or more disability holding a valid certificate. As per Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment O.M. No. 18-25/2024-Policy dated 17 December 2025, disability conditions falling under "likely to improve" (temporary disability category) are not eligible for reservation, while conditions that are "progressive, non-progressive, or not likely to improve" are eligible. Candidates with a temporary disability certificate bearing conditions other than "likely to improve" must get themselves re-assessed under the RPwD Amendment Rules 2024.
- Candidates claiming age relaxation as a widow, divorced woman, or woman judicially separated from her husband must produce specific documentary evidence (death certificate with affidavit of non-remarriage for widows; certified copy of the court judgment/decree along with an affidavit of non-remarriage for divorced/judicially separated women) issued by the competent authority.
Exam Pattern & Selection Process
Selection is a three-stage process: screening of applications, a qualifying Trade Test, and a Competitive Written Examination. This section explains the marking scheme and qualifying criteria for the written stage.
- Online applications received within the stipulated last date are screened by a duly constituted Screening Committee, which shortlists candidates for a Trade Test in the relevant trade. The Trade Test is qualifying in nature; its syllabus will be notified separately on the official website.
- Candidates who qualify in the Trade Test are called for the Competitive Written Examination.

- Resolution of Tie Cases (as per CSIR Letter No. 5-1(211)/2014-PD dated 30 May 2023), in order of preference: higher marks in the concerned subject/trade paper; lesser negative marks in the concerned subject/trade paper; lesser negative marks in the papers considered for merit; older date of birth; candidate acquiring the essential degree earlier; and alphabetical order of first names.
